Settings reference

Settings holds every preference of the app, in ten sections. This page lists each one, with the menus, the notifications and the keyboard shortcuts. Sections with their own page link to it.

Open Settings from the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar: click your name, then Settings. Back to app returns to the chat. Changes save as you make them, unless a section has its own Save button.

General

Updates

The Updates card: your version, Check for updates, the current status, and Check for updates automatically (on by default). See Install and update.

Sessions

• New sessions: "With or without a project folder." Project folder or No project.
• Default project folder: "Working directory for new project sessions." Type a path, or Browse….
• Permission mode: the mode new sessions start in. "New sessions only; existing permissions stay unchanged." See Permissions and approvals.

Goals

• Spend limit: "A goal stops when it has cost this much. 0 removes the limit." In US dollars, 0 to 1,000, default 20.
• Time limit: "A goal stops when it has run this long. 0 removes the limit." In hours, 0 to 24, default 3.

Chat

• Link previews: "Show the title, text and image of links in chats. Pages are fetched from this computer." On by default. See Answers in the chat.

Notifications

• Desktop notifications: "Task completion and approvals while the app is in the background." On by default.

With it on, the app sends a system notification when the window is not in focus and:

• a turn ends: "Turn finished", or "Turn" followed by how it stopped;
• a tool needs approval: "Approval needed:" and the tool's name;
• a routine run ends, for routines that ask for it: "AgenC · Routines", with the routine's name and "finished", "failed" or "interrupted". Clicking it opens the run's session.

Update notifications ("AgenC (version) is available") do not follow this switch; they come once per version.

Profile

• Account: your AgenC account, with Sign in or Sign out. When you are signed in it shows your email and plan. "Connect your AgenC account for hosted models." The same sign-in is in the account menu.
• Profile picture: "Choose an illustration or a local image."
• Token activity: a year of your token use on this computer, from a local record. It shows this month's turns, input and output tokens and cost, totals for twelve months, the daily average and the peak. Filter by Provider and Model, switch between Activity (tokens per day) and Burn (running total), and Copy CSV. With the AgenC provider selected, it also shows your Available credits for the account on all devices, with Refresh and View history.

Providers

The providers you connect, the defaults for new sessions, and sub-agents on other providers. See Providers and models.

Connections

Phones and browsers that can control this computer, other computers you can control, SSH hosts, Telegram agents, and Keep this computer awake. See Phone and remote access.

Whisper

Voice input settings. The section appears when voice input is available on this computer. See Whisper voice input.

Appearance

Interface

• App theme: System, Light or Dark. New installs start in Dark.
• Writing cursor: the cursor in the composer. Soft pill, Fluid beam, Gliding underline (default), Glass block or Soft I-beam.
• UI size: scales the whole interface, from 12 to 18 px. "14 px = 100%"; the default is 13.
• Glass surfaces: "Frosted translucent panels over the ambient backdrop. Turn off for the flat theme." Off by default.
• Backdrop palette: Aurora, Ocean, Sunset, Forest (default) or Mono. Only with glass surfaces on.

Sidebar & chat colors

"Choose a color combination. Applies instantly and adapts to light or dark mode." Original (neutral grays, the default), Harbor (navy and blue gray), Grove (pine and sage), Plum (aubergine and lilac), Ember (terracotta and sand) or Slate (steel and mist).

Code

• Code font size: code blocks and diffs, 10 to 18 px, default 12.
• Show line numbers: in code blocks. Off by default.
• Wrap long lines: instead of scrolling sideways. Off by default.

Shortcuts

Three shortcuts can be changed. Click one, then press the new combination with Ctrl, Cmd or Alt. Escape cancels and Backspace resets it. A combination another shortcut already uses is refused.

• New session: Ctrl/Cmd+N. "Start with your session defaults."
• Reconnect to the daemon: Ctrl/Cmd+R. "Reconnect without restarting the daemon."
• Open the model picker: Ctrl/Cmd+M. "Choose a model from the chat screen."

These cannot be changed:

• Enter: send the message.
• Shift+Enter: new line.
• Ctrl/Cmd+K: search sessions.

In approval sheets, the keys 1, 2 and 3 pick the choices. Escape closes dialogs and menus. Ctrl/Cmd means Cmd on macOS and Ctrl elsewhere.

Git

GitHub sign-in, your commit identity and each project's workflow. See Git and pull requests.

Advanced

• config.toml: Core's configuration file. Open opens it in your default editor. Validate asks Core to check it and says "Configuration valid" or what is wrong. Reload applies it without restarting Core.
• Data folder: the path of Core's data folder, with Copy and Open.
• MCP & plugins: Manage opens the plugin manager.
• Project: the current project's path, with Copy and Open.
• Daemon, Connection: the address Core listens on and whether the app is "Connected", "Connecting…" or "Disconnected", with Reconnect.

About

• AgenC Desktop and its version.
• AgenC Core: "Runs sessions, tools and permissions."
• Documentation: "Guides, issues and source on GitHub." Open GitHub opens the AgenC Core repository.

Menus

These are the menus of the macOS menu bar. On Windows and Linux the menu bar is hidden.

• File: New Session…, Model Picker… and Close.
• Edit: the standard edit commands.
• Daemon: Reconnect and Reload daemon config.
• View: Reload, Force Reload, Toggle Developer Tools and Toggle Full Screen.
• Help: About AgenC, which opens the AgenC Core repository on GitHub, and Open Source Notices, which lists the third-party software in the app and its licenses.

On macOS the AgenC menu adds About, Hide, Hide Others, Show All and Quit.

The account menu at the bottom of the sidebar has Feedback, which opens the AgenC Core issue tracker on GitHub, Settings, and Sign in or Log out.
